Let Nothing You Dismay

There is something so captivating about a beautifully written lyric and melody. Especially when a writer can perfectly sum up your thoughts and emotions in a single line. This Christmas Carol carries those sentiments in which just one simple line summed up my feelings on this current season and gloomy climate we are in.

God rest ye merry gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
Remember Christ our Saviour
Was born on Christmas Day
To save us all from Satan’s power
When we were gone astray
Oh tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
Oh tidings of comfort and joy

2020 has really been a year like no other, and there has been so much chaos to cause pain, hurt and suffering. We have been through enough to send even the strongest of us into a state of depression.

But… This carol for me was a like the light on the hilltop, reminding me that we should ‘Let nothing us dismay.’  No matter the climate or season there is always hope and our hope in this season is that Jesus came to bring us peace in the most turbulent of times. Jesus came with peace, with rest and happiness. He came bringing us comfort and joy.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33 (NIV)
