A Lesson from Sarah
How many times we feel that when God promises us something, that there is no way it can be done? Because it looks impossible. But God is a God of the impossible and He always keeps His promises. All we have to do is keep the faith!
Abraham was known to have great faith. In fact his faith was so great the Bible says that his faith was credited to him as righteousness. But the Bible also gives credit to Sarah for also having great faith. (Hebrews 11:11)
But to me, for some reason I have never considered Sarah as a woman of great faith. I think that’s because her actions always displayed what seemed like a lack of faith.
I mean, she laughed when she heard she will have a child at her advanced age. When she saw that she could not bear Abraham the son which God promised she sends her servant Hagar to him instead. Which in turn back fired so badly because she inevitably created an even bigger problem with the birth of Ishmael. To me it seemed like Sarah struggled with God’s promise of her bearing Abraham a son.The part of the promise that Sarah struggled with was not that God could not give them the son He promised. She struggled with the how was God going to give them the son He promised.
Romans 4:18 describes it so well. Abraham knew both his and Sarah’s bodies was practically dead, how was God going to it? And against all hope, they still hoped. When all the signs said no, they both still knew God was going to deliver on that promise.
I couldn’t really find an exact scripture or anything in the Bible that could show me what exactly made their faith so great, all I could find was verse after verse saying that they had great faith and then it hit me!
Isaac was born! Isaac could not have ever been born had Sarah not gone to Abraham. Even when what they physically saw was dead and hopeless, they still trusted God and hoped against hope that somehow a child would be born. And yes, a child was conceived.
I want to encourage each of you, that whatever you are trusting God for today, no matter how impossible it may seem. Keep on trusting Him. All it takes is one small, tiny act of faith that can change your situation around.
Sarah in her 90 year old physical body could never bear a child, but Sarah in her 90 year old body with the power and promise of God could. All it took was a tiny bit of faith, faith as small as a mustard seed…
